As the gears rotate, the volume of the chamber adjacent to the disengaging gear gradually increases, creating a vacuum to draw in liquid. Simultaneously, the volume of the chamber on the meshing side of the gears decreases, squeezing the liquid into the pipeline. The suction and discharge chambers are separated by the line where the gears mesh. The pressure at the pump outlet is determined solely by the resistance at the pump outlet.
